MVYC Historical Pages 1985 through 2000

Welcome to a chronological record of past events at Mountain View Yacht Club.

It has been fun to slowly build this site with input from many members and renters while also learning the history of MVYC.

It is amazing to see what has transpired in just twenty five (25) years from 1985 to 2010. The change in docks, boats, landscape, buildings, members, and renters. The replacement of dock walls, infrastructure, and services in just the last decade has been remarkable. A great deal has been accomplished by many people in a short time to protect the investment of members and to ensure summer usage by all members.

Enjoy looking at the history and what is current that will become history in only a year. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a present.

Before 1985 ????

Can you find MVYC in this photo?

Here is an old picture of the original "Gilford Marina" before MVYC was formed. Submitted by Ed Berger of D Dock  Note, the old style wooden docks.

Looking past the gas dock and wooden boats on "G" Dock in early evening.

Gilford Marina 19XX - No "A" "C" "I" or "J" Docks, No B Dock Bathhouse, No Valet storage area, No condos or stores across the street.

Gilford Marina - Look how the boats are docked on "A" dock. There is a small building on A Dock across from the gas dock. It doesn't appear that there are docks where I and J Docks are now.

Gilford Marina 19XX - The field next to the valet docks is green with grass. No condos and No stores across the street. No Docks where I and J Dock are now.

Sunset from the Foot Bridge

The area that is the current B Dock slips 31 to 38 look a lot different in this picture. There is a tree located at the current B-32 slip area.

This photo is of the annual boat auction held during the 1960's. Len Roland remembers going to one as a kid in the late 60's as some of the boat dealers along with private owners would bring their boats up.  The auctioneer would go around in the back of a pickup and stop behind the boats and auction them off.

H Dock looking  toward the foot bridge between B & C Dock

Looking from H Dock across to A Dock. Notice the boat docked sideways vs. backed in to the bulkhead on A Dock. In the background you can see a building where the current A18 - A 20 slips are located. I have been told this building was a food stand.

Dredging for more dock space??? Either an early fall snow or a late spring.

1991

Paula Bertholdt joined the Board Of Directors as the MVYC "Treasurer"

I found this picture hanging on the bulkhead in Bert & Stella Parrott's Carver.  After talking to Bert, Stella, Jay, Sharon, and Emad decided that the timeframe was around 1991. Based upon Jay's 1989 Bayliner on B Dock and The Carver with red canvas in B1 which was owned by Delucca. Cars were parking on the beach along J Dock and the gas dock building was a dark color.

1991 - Irwin Marine was brought in as a consultant to help find a solution to the management and budget challenges the club faced.

1992

B Dock bathhouse was refurbished

January

Irwin Marine and MVYC joined forces in 1992 for the management and operation of the Club.  The specific needs and goals of MVYC, as specified by the Board of Directors, were evaluated in the formulation of the agreement.

Specifically, MVYC wanted to devote its efforts and funds to the facility for the benefit of the Members.  Irwin Marine would provide the resources for the daily operation of the facility and the service needs of the Members.  Each entity would be self sustaining.

The Board and Irwin Marine developed a contract which espoused the principals of the agreement.  Contracts were executed for first one year, 1992; then three years, 1993-1995; then three consecutive five year periods, 1996-2000, 2001-2005, and 2006 - 2010.

The annual dues were increased to $650.00 per year per slip.

March

With Irwin Marine managing the operations, MVYC members were able to pay off all outstanding debts by March.

1993

I Dock was replaced

Special assessment of $200.00 per slip collected for I wall replacement.

1997

The annual dues were increased to $1000.00 per year per slip.

1999

H Dock bathhouse was built
